Jon Hamm says he thinks it's right that Mad Men should come to an end

Mad Men star Jon Hamm has told Newsbeat it's no-one's fault that the filming of series five has been delayed.

The actor blames the hold-up on the fact that studio bosses had to sort out contracts for the show.

He said: "It was nobody's fault really, it was the network and the studio. When billionaires fight it tends to take a lot longer than when normal people do."

He added that there would only be three more series of the hit show, with series seven being the last.

Hamm, who's also starred in films like The Town and The A-Team, says the delays were all down to the recent success of the show.

'It should end'

He said: "The show has garnered a lot of interest and is worth a lot of money worldwide now.

"They all realise that, so they want to fight about that. God bless them. That's what corporations do."

The 40-year-old admitted that every show had a natural end point but revealed he would have an exciting role in the upcoming series.

He said: "I think it should end. Everything should end. I was a big fan of The Office over here because it ended.

"We're going to start the fifth series here, I think late July or August. I'll be directing the first episode."

However, it seems that the scripts have yet to make an appearance.

"I don't think they exist," he said.

"The way Matthew [Weiner] writes the show is very organically. He starts when he starts and eventually there are scripts but I certainly haven't seen them."

Hamm is a relative latecomer to big time Hollywood success and admitted that he didn't take it for granted.

"I'm a million in Hollywood years," he said.

"I'm 40, which is ridiculously old in Hollywood. I mean, come on, I'm not in Twilight. I could play their grandfather or something.

"It's crazy that this has happened. I'm a very, very lucky human being."
