A lock of Justin Bieber's hair has been sold for $40,668 (£25,024) in a charity sale on Ebay.

Bieber gave the piece of hair to US talkshow host Ellen Degeneres, having changed his trademark swept style in February.

There were 98 bids in total with bidding for the hair, which came in a signed box, closing on Thursday.

The money raised will be go to a charity which rescues and rehabilitates animals.

The star, whose film Never Say Never was released in February, turned 17 on 1 March.

He recently was knocked off top spot in the US billboard chart by UK singer Adele.
