The latest driver to join the Top Fuel elite on the drag racing circuit is Shelley Pearson.

Officially the fastest female in the UK, the 27-year-old has just got her licence so is starting to drive the fastest category of drag racers, reaching speeds of more than 300mph and finishing quarter mile runs in less than five seconds.

The acceleration of the Top Fuel dragsters sees them reach around 100mph in the first 60ft (18m) of their run.

Newsbeat reporter Hannah Morrison went along to the Santa Pod Raceway to check out the power of Shelley's 8,000 horsepower car.
