White Lies have announced their new album, Ritual, will be released on 17 January 2011.

The first single from the album, Bigger Than Us, will be out on 3 January.

Singer Harry McVeigh said: "We've felt really comfortable making this record. That's prehaps reflected in this record.

"It's a lot more uplifting. It's more about love than anything else. We haven't radically changed direction. They're just quite uplifting songs."

The 10-track album was produced by Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails).

"There are a few surprises on the record actually," Harry McVeigh added. "I'm not going to give anything away but in terms of the way I sing.

"We tried a few different things and some of them are really cool."

The singer says Peace and Quiet is his favourite track from the new album.

He said: "It was one of those songs that we made quite near the end of the record. It's just quite musical.

"And you can really hear how much we've progressed from our first album with that song. It's quite complex."

Their debut album, To Lose My Life, was released in January 2009 selling just under a million copies worldwide.

White Lies plan to perform live tracks from their new album at London's York Hall on Monday 22 November 2010.
