New gadgets unveiled at IFA electronics fair

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is just one of the gadgets to be unveiled at IFA, the world's largest consumer electronics and home appliances fair, in Berlin. It's the latest rival to Apple's iPad and will run on Google's Android operating system.

At 380g (14oz) and with an 18cm (7in) screen it is smaller and lighter than the iPad [left]. Vodafone says it will distribute the Galaxy Tab in the UK in October.

Another tablet computer to join the market is Toshiba's latest offering, the Folio 100, which has a 25.7cm (10.1in) screen. It also uses the Android 2.2 operating system which allows users to play Flash video - something Apple restricts on the iPad.

A visitor has a go on a Sony e-reader Pocket Edition [left], whilst an employee demonstrates the Sony Reader Touch Edition [right]. Both editions have room for approximately 1,200 books and include 12 built-in dictionaries.

A model displays Panasonic's new three dimensional camcorder, which will be available in October 2010.

Dutch company Philips showcased their Activa portable fitness device at the event. It can be used as a trainer, MP3 player and pedometer.

Toshiba workers wear special glasses to watch a movie on a laptop, which uses the company's software to convert two dimensional movies into three dimensional.

Models demonstrate a 3D computer game at the fair, which is celebrating its 50th show. The event opens its doors to the public from 3-8 September.
