Kanye West was asked to leave the stage after jumping up when Taylor Swift was collecting an award at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards in New York.
Kanye West has apologised after jumping on stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York. The country singer had just won best female video for You Belong With Me, which Kanye West thought Beyonce should have won.
Beyonce made up for Kanye West ruining Taylor Swift's evening by letting her finish off her acceptance speech while she was on stage getting her award for video of the year.
The celebrity crowd booed at the next mention of Kanye West on stage. When Sean "Diddy" Combs read his name later in the show while introducing the nominees for best male video, the crowd heckled with Diddy saying in mock surprise, "What happened?"
Dressed in black, Madonna gave a moving speech about her relationship with Michael Jackson. She said: "Sometimes, we have to lose things before we can truly appreciate them. Michael Jackson was a human being, but yes, he was a king. Long live the king."
Host for the second year in a row, Russell Brand also paid tribute to Michael Jackson before making fun of Katy Perry's bum. He also joked that he'd give Taylor Swift "a shoulder to cry on" after Kanye West interrupted her speech.
Lady Gaga wore three bizarre outfits to the awards. She arrived in a gold mask and hat, then put on a red, all-in-one lace dress which covered her head to accept the award for best new artist and finished by performing Paparazzi with a crutch.
Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson from the Twilight films were in New York to present an extended trailer from New Moon. The movie is released in the UK on 27 November.
The show's performances also included Pink, who wowed the audience singing while twirling on a trapeze high above the crowd. Other winners at the ceremony included Eminem for best hip hop video (We Made You) and Green Day took the best rock video award.
Katy Perry joined namesake Joe Perry from Aerosmith on stage at the awards. Beyonce also performed a song before she stood and cheered as husband Jay-Z performed with Alicia Keys.
Hollywood actor Jack Black wore a muscle suit and carried a fake axe while on stage with Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl.
