Obama asks Congress for $3.7bn to deal with child migrants

9 July 2014 Last updated at 02:13 BST

President Obama is asking Congress for nearly $4bn to deal with the massive wave of unaccompanied children who are illegally crossing the southern border of the US.

The White House says the money will be used to help improve the transportation, detention and care of the children as they go through the process of being sent back home.

This year more than 52,000 minors have illegally entered the US without their parents, most of them from Central America.

David Willis reports.
