Guardian editor says it is a 'remarkable day'

17 January 2014 Last updated at 08:58 GMT

The Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger has said it is remarkable that the "US president is responding to information put in the public domain by a newspaper".

He noted, however, that the British authorities are "closing their eyes and hoping [the story] goes away".

Mr Rusbridger added that the US president's proposed reforms would have a "deep knock-on effect" on British intelligence services.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 17 January 2014.
