8 January 2014 Last updated at 15:49 GMT

Weather records have tumbled across North America, as extreme arctic blasts, blamed on a weather pattern known as the polar vortex, continued to bring challenging conditions.

Temperature records were shattered in states across the US, including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Michigan, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York.

Meanwhile, in Ohio, dogs found with frozen paws were rescued by concerned local residents, as ABC's Linzie Janis reports.
