Canada embarks on North Pole claim

Canada has signalled its intention to claim the North Pole and some of the surrounding Arctic waters on its Atlantic coast.

The Canadian government has asked scientists to determine how far the country's continental shelf extends under the Pole.

The results of the survey will be submitted to the UN for consideration.
