Toronto mayor Rob Ford knocks over councillor

18 November 2013 Last updated at 23:15 GMT

Toronto city councillors have voted to strip embattled Mayor Rob Ford of most of his powers.

At the tense political stand-off on Monday, Mr Ford bolted down an aisle and knocked over city councillor Pam McConnell before catching her.

Ms McConnell was later seen putting ice on her lip.

In recent weeks, Mr Ford has resisted growing demands he step down after admitting he had used crack cocaine and bought illegal drugs while mayor of Canada's largest city.

He denounced Monday's move to strip him of many of his powers as a "coup d'etat".
