A police officer is reportedly injured after shots were fired near the US Capitol in Washington DC.

Police say the shooting was "an isolated incident" and not a terrorist act.

US Capitol police chief Kim Dine said a vehicle tried to pass a barricade near the White House but it was stopped by secret police.

He said the scene is secure and the lockdown at the US Capitol complex has now been lifted.
