The US government has begun a partial shutdown after the Republican led House of Representatives refused to approve a budget for next year.

The Tea Party faction of the Republican party refuse to fund "Obama-care"; the President's health exchange and insurance scheme.

Democrats refuse to negotiate on extending spending for the federal government if there are any health scheme cuts.

Tahman Bradley, Correspondent for ABC Washington said "this could have a devastating effect on the economy in Washington."
