Thousands of people in Colorado are being forced to evacuate their homes as massive flooding cuts them off from the outside world.

Towns like Lyons, on the outskirts of Boulder, are now effectively islands.

Governor John Hickenlooper says that the evacuations are the main priority. Three people are known to have died in the floods so far.
