Syria: Obama's 'robust discussion' with National Security Council

31 August 2013 Last updated at 23:56 BST

President Barack Obama says the US should take military action against Syria and he will seek congressional authorisation for intervention.

The White House has said that it was the President's own decision to seek authority from Congress.

The BBC's Katty Kay in Washington reports that there was "a robust discussion" between Mr Obama and the full National Security Council about the "pros and cons" of the decision.
