Egypt unrest: US 'strongly condemns' violence

The US says it "strongly condemns" the use of violence against protesters in Egypt.

Speaking from Martha's Vineyard, White House Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that the use of violence "runs directly counter to pledges by the interim government to pursue reconciliation".

"The world is watching what happens in Cairo," he said.
