Barack Obama: 'Won't scramble jets for Snowden'

US President Obama has said that there have been some "useful conversations" between the US and Russian governments over the whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Speaking at a news conference in Senegal, Mr Obama said that his expectation was that the rules of extradition would be obeyed, even though there was no treaty between the two countries.

He said that but that he would not be "scrambling jets to get a 29-year-old hacker".

But he said there needed to be an open debate about surveillance methods used by the US government to reassure people.
