The outgoing commander of Nato forces in Afghanistan, US Gen John Allen, has said the alliance is on the road to winning the war.
Marine Corps Gen Joseph Dunford takes over from Gen Allen as the head of the International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) in Afghanistan, in a formal ceremony to be held at the Nato headquarters in Kabul on Sunday.
Gen Allen departs with the White House still not confirming exactly how many troops will remain in the country at the end of 2014.
In an interview with the BBC, the general explained how he believed America's military presence in Afghanistan had helped set the conditions for self-governance.
