US President Obama announces gun control plans
President Obama has set out his plans for radical changes to gun control in the United States, which includes a ban on assault rifles.
His announcement was made in the wake of the shooting of 20 children and six teachers at a school last month.
However, Mr Obama needs the support of Congress to make his plans a reality and to withstand the opposition of the National Rifle Association.
Mark Mardell reports.
