Newtown shootings: Michael Bloomberg demands action
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an advocate for gun control, has appealed to the White House and Congress for gun regulations, in the wake of a mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
"Gun violence is a national epidemic, a national tragedy," he said, describing it is a problem unique to the US.
Mr Bloomberg said the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School was "no aberration" and that 34 Americans die from gun violence each day.
Friday's gunman, who police say took his own life after he killed 20 children, six adults and his mother, has been identified by police as Adam Lanza, 20.
