Aerial footage shows the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, with houses torn from their foundations and boats in streets.

US President Obama has declared a "major disaster" in New York state after Sandy smashed into the US East Coast.

At least 32 people are reported dead across several US states.

New Jersey-based meteorologist Paul Heppner explained why Sandy had caused such devastation.
