A man has been arrested in New York on suspicion of plotting to blow up the Federal Reserve building.

Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, 21, of Bangladesh, had travelled to the US on a student visa and was arrested after an under-cover FBI agent supplied him with fake explosives and he allegedly attempted to detonate what he thought was a 1,000lb (454kg) bomb.

Mr Nafis is charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al-Qaeda.

Barbara Plett reports.
