US running mates clash in debate


US vice-presidential candidates Joe Biden and Paul Ryan have clashed sharply in their only televised debate of the 2012 election campaign.

The head-to-head came as Democrats try to rejuvenate their campaign after what was widely seen as a poor debate performance by Barack Obama when he and Mitt Romney met for the first televised presidential debate.

The debate took place at Centre College in Kentucky, with ABC's Martha Raddatz moderating.
