The opening session of the 67th UN General Assembly is under way in New York, with US President Barack Obama among the first to speak.

The Middle East is set to dominate the summit, with recent protests across the Muslim world, Iran's nuclear programme and the 18-month conflict in Syria expected to be discussed.
