Alligator attack: Teen loses arm while swimming in Florida
A teenager in Florida has told how he was attacked by an alligator while swimming in a river in Florida - and had to decide between losing his arm to the reptile or face losing his life.
The 10ft (3m) long alligator bit off 17-year-old Kaleb Langdale's arm below the elbow while he was swimming in the Caloosahatchee River.
Wildlife officers who caught and killed the alligator retrieved the arm, but doctors were unable to reattach it.
Captain Jeff Ardelean, from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, said alligators were particularly active at this time of year.
