River levels soar as Tropical Storm Debby hits Florida

Householders are counting the coast of flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby which has drenched the US state of Florida.

At least three people were killed in the storm and several rivers reached historic levels.

The Sopchoppy River reached its peak on Wednesday at 36.1 ft (11m). Before the storm, it was 8 ft (2.4m).

"It rained and rained and rained and rained, proverbially the Biblical flood type of rain," said Don Shemwell, who was in his summer home on the river.
