The hidden literary themes of the 'American Dream'


Sam Tanenhaus, editor of the New York Times Book Review, has spoken to the BBC's Matt Frei about the portrayal of the ''American Dream'' in literature.

Citing works like The Great Gatsby and Freedom he says there is a "secret, dark undercurrent" in many US novels when it comes to the "myth" of the American Dream.
