Wisconsin protests continue for a second week

President Obama says he still hopes that a deal can be reached with his Republican opponents over government funding, in order to prevent a Federal shutdown when all but essential government services would grind to a halt.

The battle over cuts is also being played out at state level in Wisconsin. Tens of thousands of people have turned out every day to demonstrate against planned Republican cuts and Democrat politicians have fled the state in order to avoid having to vote.
