Reaction to 'Ground Zero mosque' go-ahead

Help

An attempt to stop plans for a mosque near New York's Ground Zero has failed after the site was denied landmark status.

Opponents had hoped the Landmarks Preservation Commission would protect the building where the proposed mosque is to be built.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Muslim religious freedom must be respected and he hoped the mosque would "bring our city even closer together".
