At least 39 people have been killed in political and gang violence in the Pakistani city of Karachi in the past two days.

The violence escalated following the death of ex-MP Waja Karim Dad and 12 other people on Wednesday.

Police say many of the dead were kidnapped first, and some appear to show signs of torture.
