15 July 2013 Last updated at 14:54 BST

Zhang Xin is a self made billionaire and the chief executive of one of China's biggest property development companies, Soho China.

Some of her early years were spent in poverty and working long hours in Hong Kong factories as a teenager. Now she heads a company whose buildings dominate the skylines of Beijing and Shanghai.

She also has more than six million followers on the Chinese version of twitter, Sina Weibo. How important a tool could it be towards China becoming more democratic?

Zhang Xin talks to Gavin Esler.
