BBC reporters comb a marked-out section of a town or city and talk to the people they meet.

Through spontaneous encounters they find out what life is really like for residents of the neighbourhoods in the chosen "one square mile".

Previously the programme has travelled everywhere from Juba, Silicon Valley, Vukovar and Guatemala.
