Gaza crisis: UN representatives give their views

31 July 2014 Last updated at 17:26 BST

Israel is committing genocide against the people of Gaza, the Palestinian representative to the UN has said.

Riyad Mansour said that civilians were being targeted, a claim denied by Ron Prosor, the Israeli ambassador to the UN, who defended his country's military operations.

Since 8 July, 1,390 Palestinians have been killed - most of them civilians - according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Some 58 Israelis have been killed, of which 56 were soldiers and two civilians.
