Blair warns about religion's role in Mid-East politics

23 April 2014 Last updated at 13:14 BST

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has called on Western nations to address the role of religion in politics in the Middle East.

Speaking to the BBC, he suggested that much of the turmoil and instability in the region stemmed from "a relationship between religion and politics that is wrong".

"We should be on the side of those who favour religiously tolerant societies and modern economies," he added.
