The US Defence Secretary, Chuck Hagel, has said he is concerned that Syria is behind schedule in handing over its chemical weapons for destruction.
US officials say less than five percent of the chemicals have been removed, and the effort is seriously stalled.
Speaking during a visit to Poland, Mr Hagel said he did not know what the Syrian government's motives were for the delay.
