Nearly 1,000 people were killed in violence across Iraq in September, according to UN figures.

Baghdad and areas around the capital were worst-hit.

September's death-toll - one of the highest monthly figures in years - brings the number killed across the country this year to 5,740.

Two blasts on Wednesday night, one outside a Shia mosque, left a total of nine people dead.
