Syria crisis: French National Assembly debates action

France - whose government has strongly advocated intervention in Syria - held a debate on the issue in its National Assembly on Wednesday.

But MPs will not vote on the matter as the country's president can mobilise the military without their backing.

Meanwhile President Francois Hollande spent the day with his German counterpart, holding hands in a symbol of unity, in the ruins of a village destroyed by the Nazis during WWII.
