Syria dismisses Assad attack claims

8 August 2013 Last updated at 23:13 BST

The Syrian Government has denied rebel claims that President Bashar al Assad's motorcade has been hit by mortar rounds.

Rebel forces say the attack was launched as the president travelled to the Anas bin Malek mosque in the Malki area where he has a residence - but state television later showed the unharmed president taking part in a prayer service there.

Bridget Kendall reports.
