Egypt's army gives parties 48 hours to resolve crisis

1 July 2013 Last updated at 18:44 BST

The head of Egypt's armed forces has given politicians a deadline of 48 hours to resolve the current crisis.

If not, he says, the army will draw up a plan for Egypt's future.

The move follows huge anti-government demonstrations in the capital Cairo, called to mark the first anniversary of President Morsi's inauguration.

Jeremy Bowen reports.
