Syria talks due to begin in Geneva


Senior American and Russian diplomats are due to begin talks in Geneva with the UN envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, on ways to end the conflict in Syria.

A diplomatic breakthrough is considered unlikely as Russia and the US disagree over Washington's demands for the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad to step down.
