Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem given Unesco world heritage status
The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and its pilgrimage route, in the West Bank, have been registered by the UN's cultural agency, Unesco, as a world heritage site.
It is the first approval of a Palestinian bid since Unesco granted Palestine membership last year despite opposition from Israel and the United States.
