French Afghanistan plans prompt Nato handover debate
France has confirmed it plans to withdraw its combat forces from Afghanistan by the end of 2012, two years ahead of the agreed Nato schedule.
As Nato leaders meet this weekend to discuss the handover to Afghan security forces, there are warnings the conflict in Afghanistan may continue for some time.
