Iran threatens to close the strategic Hormuz trade route

Help

Amid sanctions imposed by the West on Iran, the country's government has threatened to close one of the world's most strategic water passages, the Strait of Hormuz.

The passage connects the Gulf of Oman to the Persian Gulf and hosted some 35% of the world's sea-borne shipments of oil in 2011.

Karen Zarindast reports.
