Syria protests: 'They started shooting at random'

A witness to violence in the Syrian city of Homs on Monday has said security forces attacked civilians without warning, killing and arresting people gathered in a central square.

Speaking to the BBC, the man, named only as Muhammad for his own safety, said tear gas and guns had been fired at random.

An unknown number of people died in the unrest, which came after civilians occupied the square in an anti-government protest.
