Yemeni soldier killed in ambush
Gunmen have opened fire on soldiers in southern Yemen, killing at least one and wounding others.
The attack took place in Mudiya in the southern province of Abyan.
A Yemeni security official blamed the incident on al-Qaeda militants, who have carried out several attacks in Abyan in recent weeks.
Fierce clashes in the city of Lawder between suspected al-Qaeda militants and the army last month left 11 soldiers dead, reports say.
In Thursday's attack, "gunmen opened fire on an army patrol with machine guns as troops were chasing suspects, killing one soldier and wounding three others," a security official told the AFP news agency.
Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has established strongholds in the country's largely autonomous tribal regions, analysts say.
The group has been responsible for a number of deadly attacks in Yemen, including a raid on the country's domestic intelligence agency in Aden in June, in which 13 people were killed.
