Clashes in a Peruvian town over mining project
The authorities in Peru have arrested the mayor of Espinar province, Oscar Mallohuanca, after more than a week of protests against a copper mine project run by a Swiss company Xstrata.
It is believed that the mayor is one of the leaders of the demonstrations, which have turned violent.
Two people have died and dozens have been injured in clashes between protesters and the police.
