Hopes are fading of finding more survivors after Wednesday's building collapse in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil killed at least 17 people.

A local official said the chances were now "practically non-existent".

The confirmed death toll rose to 17 after three more bodies were pulled from the rubble of three buildings that collapsed in Rio's historic centre.

Officials suspect unauthorised building work in the tallest - 20-storey - structure may have caused the disaster.

Six people have been rescued from the rubble, and at least seven more are still missing.

Rio de Janeiro State governor Sergio Cabral has declared three days of mourning for the victims.
