Fatal Victoria Avenue crash motorcyclist named

A biker who died after a crash with a van on St Helier's seafront has been named as Sam Slater.

The collision happened on Victoria Avenue, near the Grand Hotel, at about 19:15 BST on Monday, a Jersey police spokesman said.

Mr Slater, a 25-year-old software programmer, was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards.

The driver of the van is helping police with their inquiries, the force spokesman said.

The road past the Grand Hotel was closed for about four hours while police examined the scene.
