Jersey travel company to relaunch as Preston Holidays

A defunct travel company that brought 20,000 visitors per year to Jersey will be relaunched under new ownership.

Preston Travel went out of business in February but its assets have been bought by UK-based 3X Travel, which will be rebranded as Preston Holidays.

Thirty people, mostly UK-based, lost their jobs when the company went bust. It is not clear if the revived entity will directly provide any island jobs.

For 50 years Preston Travel was a lead provider for the Jersey holiday market.

'Other markets'

Before its closure it accounted for 8% of visitors to the island.

Grant Miller, owner of 3X Travel, said he did not anticipate facing the same financial problems as Preston Travel when the business reopened in the next couple of months.

"I think the problem with the previous operator was that they expanded into other markets.

"One of those was Egypt and that's obviously not such a desirable destination just now. We will be purely focused on the Channel Islands," he said.
