Jersey gardeners save teenager from fire
Two gardeners with ladders saved a teenager from a house fire in Jersey.
Firemen a fire alarm woke the 19-year-old occupant who became aware of an "inferno" at the house in Rozel.
The unnamed teenager tried to get out of his first floor bedroom, but the heat coming from the fire was too strong.
He shouted for help and two gardeners working nearby helped him escape by putting ladders up to his bedroom window.
Fire service emergency response director Martin Allix said: "The fire could have involved the full property if it were not for the decisive tactics of the first responding firefighters in committing everything they had to suppressing the fire.
"There is no doubt in my mind that the smoke alarm saved his life, and I commend the gardeners for their swift action in helping the young man escape."
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
